A Canadian Citizen or a Canadian Permanent Residence may sponsor a close relative under this program if they meet the family class sponsorship requirements.

To qualify for this program the relationship between the Sponsor and the Sponsored Person applying must be one of the following:

• be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• be at least 18 years old
• live in Canada, or plan to return to Canada once your spouse or partner becomes a permanent resident of Canada
• be able and willing to provide for the basic financial needs of your family member for three years.

An individual may not be able to sponsor, if they:

• be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
• Are subject of a removal order
• Are in prison
• Have failed to pay child support payments
• In process of bankruptcy proceedings
